The citation generator in the database interfaces are machine generated and are only as good as the information created when the article is indexed. I've noticed that the EBSCO interface citation generator often puts in the number of pages, which is not part of an APA citation. Other citations may be missing elements or have whole words capitalized, which APA requires be considered differently.
It's good practice, then, for users to use the citation generator, but to always double-check it before using in papers.
